The history of the Alma Boutique Hotel

The history of the Art Nouveau hotel began in 1913-14: at Hafnersteig 7, in the historic centre of Vienna, a seven-storey house with a kitchen on each floor was built for residential purposes. Shortly afterwards, it was converted into a hotel. Hotel Adlerhof was its last name in 1978, when it was bought by the Pertschy family. After a short construction period, a *** hotel with 33 rooms was built under the name Pension Christina.

Renovation 2007

For 30 years, the small Art Nouveau Hotel-Garni was highly appreciated by international guests, particularly due to its central location and Mrs Traude's hospitality. In 2007, the time had come again: a general refurbishment followed in the second generation, the building was completely gutted and adapted to the **** standard in line with a modern vision of Art Nouveau. The Boutique Hotel Alma reopened in new splendour at the end of 2008. A bright and light-flooded entrance area is just the first surprise that awaits guests here. The breakfast area is designed to provide a pleasant place to linger around the clock: after a tour of the city, guests are welcomed in winter  by a log fire and can catch up on the news of the day with free WiFi . A WMF automatic coffee machine prepares all coffee specialities at the touch of a button from 11:00 to 21:00.

Interior design

For the interior design of the rooms, elements of Art Nouveau were taken up and reinterpreted and implemented in terms of material, design and colour. Based on the ideas of Arch. Paula Groß, the colour of the ‘Lampion’ curtain fabrics, based on designs by Otto Prutscher, was refreshed and partially enlarged in 1905 by the traditional Viennese textile manufacturer Backhausen. In a nod to the Art Deco globe lamp, the hand-blown ‘Castore’ lamps by Michele de Lucchi for Artemide provide stylish lighting. When it comes to sleeping comfort, exclusive products such as the barrel pocket spring mattresses, down duvets made from Austrian geese and the finest bed linen dominate.

All furniture is made of smoked local oak wood with environmentally friendly water-based gloss varnishes, custom-made by Austrian carpenters. The dominant colour red in the bathroom and toilets adds a colourful accent to every room.

Quotes by Oskar Kokoschka and Gustav Klimt accompany guests through the corridors as a clever detail and a serious invitation. In the newly converted attic there are 2 sweets with large windows and a view of St Stephen's Cathedral, upholstered furniture from NEUE WIENER WERKSTÄTTE, the Bourgie table lamp by Ferruccio Laviani per Kartell and access to the panoramic terrace with sun deck. This is the perfect place to relax after an extended stroll through the city.
